Friday Playlist
“Tongue” - Fontaines D.C. One week until the new FDC album arrives. This is another step in a different direction for them.
“Roar Of The Heliac Goat” - mercury. Not sure what the hell this song is about, but the title and grungy sound are an ideal match for the spookiest month of the year.
“Violins” - Blondshell. I found Blondshell’s new album to be quite good. The only downside is her voice doesn’t change much song-to-song, so it gets a little one-notey. But in smaller doses, the angsty tracks like this really hit.
“Western” - The Church. Kind of incredible these legends are still putting out new music. This doesn’t touch their late 80s, early 90s classics, but it is nice to have them around.
“Holladay Park” - How Strange It Is. There’s a Holiday Park near us. This is not about that park, obviously.
“Nothing To Prove” - beabadoobee & Haley Williams. Haley Williams was in the news this week for making some comments about certain government agents. I approve. This song is pretty good, too.
“Johnny” - Soup Activists. Martin Meyer is from St. Louis and wrote this song after realizing there are a lot of songs in rock ’n’ roll history about Johnnies, and that his buddy Johnny deserved one.
“Moving At Light Speed” - Thundercat & Button Masher. Somehow Thundercat found a way to sound even more Eighties than he already did. Props!
“Terra Incognita” - Sugar World. Don’t think I’ve shared anything quite like this in a while.
“Keep Risin’ To The Top” - Doug E. Fresh. I LOVE it when an old jam like this randomly pops into my head. I also LOVE Doug E.’s dance move he keeps doing. The wiping his hand around his head then spinning thing. I listened to this track 743 times in the summer of 1988.
