Friday Playlist
Just enough songs this week to put together a playlist, with a little help from a couple seasonal tracks. This is likely the last normal FP of 2025.
Also, I think I finally figured out how to embed Apple Music playlists. With Spotify becoming more and more problematic, I think it is important to offer than option even if most of my readers are on Spotify at the moment.
“December” – Cheetah Cheetah Bison
Gorgeous track.
“I’ve Got A Broken Heart” – The Lemon Twigs
Is this brand new or something from 1983? Or even 1963?
“She Said, He Said” – Softcult
An achingly intense song. On top of the very grungy music, it is about the many reasons why so many sexual assaults go unreported. Not exactly light fare, but important.
“Corner” – Hank Bee
A warm blanket of a track.
“Can’t See” – Westside Cowboy
Stereogum named WC one of their best new bands of 2025. This is their third appearance on a Friday PL, each entry different from the previous. A lot of depth for a new artist.
“Stuck” – Hatchie
As I’ve already said, Hatchie’s latest album does not match her best work. Yet I’m sharing another pretty solid track from it, so it can’t be that bad.
“No North Star” – Massage
Our second, old-school-yet-new jangle pop song of the week. And maybe topical? North Star. Christmas. Etc. Oh, NO North Star. Clearly another attack in the UNFAIR and ILLEGAL WAR ON CHRISTMAS.
“A Little More Christmas” – Andrew Kerr
Kerr came up with this and “December” during the pandemic, when he was stuck at home alone. You can hear that mix of both uncertainty and hope that characterized that time in each track.
“Listen The Snow Is Falling” – Galaxie 500
Just under two more inches of snow last night, making this the snowiest December in Indy in 20 years. A bigger dump forecast for tomorrow followed by windchills as low as –30. I’ll be turning this up to 100 and playing it over-and-over.
“Lazy Eye” – Silversun Pickups
SP released a new single last week. I listened to it once and did not like it. Magically this performance of their greatest track popped up in YouTube shortly after. A brilliant performance of a brilliant song.
