Friday Playlist

As you can guess by the lack of activity on this website, it was a busy week for me. In strange ways, which we may or may not get to next week. Because of that, my working playlist for today was half-formed, at best. Good thing it is Memorial Day weekend, though. That unlocks multiple fun tracks for us.

“Constructive Summer” – The Hold Steady
Raise a toast to Saint Joe Strummer, I’m seeing THS live in three weeks! I’m also going to build something this summer. Not sure what, but something.

“Other Side” – Rosali
Songs about reuniting with your dead homies shouldn’t sound this fun.

“In The Stars” – The Rolling Stones
Not nearly as good as “Angry,” their out-of-nowhere rocker from 2023. This is a pleasing enough track, but very little about it feels like the Stones. Not even like a Stones knock-off band. It’s too clean and shiny for that.

“Where Have All The Good Men Gone?” – Debbii Dawson
DD sounding like Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches here.

“Boat Garage” – hey, nothing
Memorial Day weekend might be the only time I miss having a boat, more for the ritual of taking the first group of friends of the season out for a ride while we listened to the Indy 500 on the radio. I don’t think this song is about that. It is a banger, though.

“Long Weekend” – Cut Worms
I’ve been sitting on this track for nearly a month waiting for this weekend. You don’t have to try too hard to hear some Marshall Crenshaw in it.

“Snack City” – Le Sécurité
Lots of early New Wave in this one, and it seems like the perfect setup track for one of our Memorial Day weekend traditions…

“My Friend Dario” – Vitalic
The Indy 500 sold out early enough that us locals will get to watch it live on TV for the second-straight year. Dario Franchitti did some TV commentary during practice last week.

“Summertime” – DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince
DRUMS PLEASE!!!!

Happy beginning of summer to everyone!
