I think I can still come up with a few decent ones to share with y\u2019all.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Friday Playlist 7\/11\/25\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/playlist\/2CnJg251LFrvr1Hk0tvFuX?si=cb590b13eee140f3&#038;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSummertime\u201d &#8211; The Sundays<br \/>\nPure pop genius.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaint A Picture\u201d &#8211; The Hives<br \/>\nYes, it is <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Uz1Jwyxd4tE?si=auSnHY_kz574yQFA\"><em>those<\/em> Hives<\/a>, back for more nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStay Out Of Place\u201d &#8211; Idlewild<br \/>\nSpeaking of bands that first broke out in the early part of the new millennium, these Scots are also back with new music. No where near their best, but I will always give them music a chance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll The World\u201d &#8211; Pale Fire<br \/>\nHoly crap, these guys sound like classic Idlewild! And they are Scottish, too! This is from their 2020 album <em>Husbands<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBag of Bones\u201d &#8211; Lord Huron<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/uproxx.com\/indie\/lord-huron-night-we-met-10th-anniversary\/\">Steven Hyden has a great piece on Uproxx<\/a> about how Lord Huron might be the best example of a \u201cpopular but not famous\u201d band at the moment. They sure don\u2019t drift from the sound that made them famous. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cInsulin\u201d &#8211; Black Honey<br \/>\nIn addition to the latest shoegaze revival, can we also admit there\u2019s a strong \u201890s alt rock revival thing going on? It seems like I\u2019m playing a song that could easily be from 1995 every couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLonely Town\u201d &#8211; Steve Queralt &amp; Emma Anderson<br \/>\nQueralt is in Ride. Anderson was in Lush. This track manages to sound like both bands, which isn\u2019t that big of a stretch since both were among the giants of the original British shoegaze movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCropduster\u201d &#8211; Pearl Jam<br \/>\nThe old joke about Pearl Jam was that they couldn\u2019t keep a drummer. Over their first eight years, they had four official drummers and two unofficial, temporary ones.<a href=\"#fn:1\" id=\"fnref:1\" title=\"see footnote\" class=\"footnote\">[1]<\/a> Then in 1998, when Soundgarden was on hiatus, Matt Cameron filled in on tour when Jack Irons was unable to play. When Irons decided he did not want to tour anymore, Cameron became a permanent member of Pearl Jam.<\/p>\n<p>As I stood in line to get lunch at IU orientation on Monday, I received an email from the band saying that Cameron was leaving. Reasons were not given. There was speculation he had tired of the band\u2019s touring cycle, or that he was just interested in working on his own projects while staying close to home. Chris Cornell\u2019s widow finally reached an agreement with his former bandmates and there is expected to be a new album of leftover Soundgarden songs, so perhaps he is focused on that. He gave Pearl Jam 27 years. I think he\u2019s earned the right to do what he wants. Like so many fans, I hope Cameron isn\u2019t facing some kind of major health issue.<\/p>\n<p>He wasn\u2019t my favorite drummer; I\u2019ve said many times I found his style too clinical and precise, and I thought his best playing was on their last album when he seemed to let loose more. But if he was the big brother they needed to get out of the Nineties alive, it was worth it. I don\u2019t think rest of the band are ready to stop touring, so it will be interesting to see who they bring in next. <\/p>\n<p>Props to Matt. He had several writing credits, this is my favorite of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSunchaser\u201d &#8211; Arc de Soleil<br \/>\nThis cat is Swedish. His music is very reminiscent of Khruangbin\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAtlas Drowned\u201d &#8211; Gang of Youths<br \/>\nI was listening to some GoY this week and wondered what they were up to. My internet sleuthing suggests they may be taking a long sabbatical before they begin work on their next album. And then they are infamous for taking a long time once they get into the studio. That\u2019s a bummer.
