This season was very good, but I was a little annoyed throughout as it didn’t seem to be moving forward much. Or at least Jimmy wasn’t. And as the main character, it seemed like he should be doing more than treading water, even if that meant sinking. I was worried they were falling into the dreaded Season Three Problem of falling in love with the show’s cuteness and cozying up to that rather than taking chances. In terms of pure fan service, I’m not sure there’s been a better revival of a beloved show than this. Started off great, slowly worked to integrate the newer characters, and by the close of the season was locked in. A team that was moments away from the NBA Finals in 2000 before blowing it and never getting back. But also a team more known for its bad behavior, on and off the court, thus the nickname “Jail Blazers.” While there were some good moments, I felt this gave way too much attention to general manager Bob Whitsitt, and focused on too few players. You never got a feel for the entire team, just three major players and one who was briefly on the roster. There’s a truly lamentable “fan” who complains about everything. An utterly compelling and compulsive 15 hours of television will almost no wasted moments. A wonderful closing scene to wrap what was a tumultuous season.
