This week she dropped the first single off her upcoming album. I love it already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStone\u201d &#8211; Prince<br>\nThe Prince Vault is opening up again. His estate is releasing an album in August that features tracks recorded between 1977 and 2016. This one is from 1995. Not classic Prince by any measure; he didn\u2019t even write this one. But the effortlessness to it is a reminder of his immense talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShooting Shadows\u201d &#8211; Sweeping Promises<br>\nApparently these kids now call Lawrence, KS as home, so I automatically like them. I also like their combination of classic punk and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riot_grrrl\">Riot Grrrl<\/a> era grunge influences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBetter Man\u201d &#8211; Slow Pulp<br>\nNOT a Pearl Jam cover. Although they are from Chicago, Eddie Vedder\u2019s hometown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis Mirror Weighs A Ton\u201d &#8211; Interpol<br>\nNew Interpol music that sounds nothing like old Interpol music. Hey, you know what else weighs a ton?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMiuzi Weighs A Ton\u201d &#8211; Public Enemy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m a Public Enemy but I don\u2019t rob banks.<br>\nI don\u2019t shoot bullets and I don\u2019t shoot blanks.<br>\nMy style is supreme, number one is my rank.<br>\nAnd I got more power than the New York Yanks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNobody\u2019s Coming To Save You\u201d &#8211; Gurriers<br>\nSeems appropriate both in tone and title for this moment in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDon\u2019t Even Have To Say His Name\u201d &#8211; The Waterboys<br>\nMore directly about the era we are living in, the best song of this type that\u2019s come out this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSpin\u201d &#8211; Johnny Marr<br>\nMarr has spent the last 25 years putting out solo music that is solid but never great. Always B-\/B, never a straight A. Nothing like his classic work\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere Is A Light That Never Goes Out\u201d &#8211; The Smiths<br>\n\u2026such as this track. This week was the 40th anniversary of the release of The Smiths\u2019 masterpiece, <em>The Queen Is Dead<\/em>. I will always insist that Marr\u2019s guitars were as important to The Smith\u2019s brilliance as Morrissey\u2019s lyrics and singing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy Backwards Walk\u201d &#8211; Manchester Orchestra covering Frightened Rabbit<br>\nI don\u2019t know how I missed it, but long time MO drummer Tim Very passed away earlier this year. A terrible loss. The band released a live album, recorded over a series of stripped-down shows in London in 2023, last month. While that was well before Very\u2019s death, you can\u2019t help but sense the band dealing with their loss in the songs.
