That means you will likely get extra-stuffed playlists for at least a few weeks as I work on clearing out that backlog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll kick off this week with three new songs by bands that have been around since (at least) the early Nineties. Still in the B\/B+ range, but I\u2019m just thankful they are recording and performing again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSeveral Got Away\u201d &#8211; Dinosaur Jr.<br>\nLast year was Dinosaur Jr.\u2019s 40th anniversary as a recording act. Which really seems wild, even if J Mascis has always looked like a wizened, ancient guitar god.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCoalfield Wars\u201d &#8211; Son Volt<br>\nOne of several SV fan club singles that were just released to the general public. I can\u2019t find much background for it, so not sure when it was originally recorded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYour Love Is Electric\u201d &#8211; Leon Bridges<br>\nLB has a new album in the future. Last week he released four tracks as a preview EP. Not a bad song among them. One of L\u2019s current favorite artists, so she\u2019s excited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLost Boys\u201d &#8211; Phoebe Bridgers<br>\nNew Bridges, new Bridgers, back-to-back. L had some friends over not too long ago and they were all amazed, in a good way, when I confirmed that I enjoyed Phoebe\u2019s music. All kinds of Cool Dad cred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAbundance Of Power\u201d &#8211; Season 2<br>\nA bit of an Aussie supergroup, pulling members from two different bands. Not sure what decade this track is most indebted to. Definitely some early Eighties in it. Then maybe some early 2000s vibes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cpoint blank\u201d &#8211; Kelela<br>\nStereogum calls Kelela a \u201cgreat avant-pop adventurer.\u201d When you listen to her music, which defies being crammed into any easy genre\/sub-genre, that seems like the best possible way to describe her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNew Beginnings\u201d &#8211; Yard Act<br>\nA natural progression of British music from the 1990s through the 2000s to today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cImanin\u201d &#8211; Tamikrest<br>\nThe latest terrific band from Mali to catch my attention. Or finally grab my attention, I should say, as Tamikrest has been making music for 20 years. I\u2019ve never been sure what to call bands like them and Tinariwen. I just saw the term \u201cDesert Blues\u201d and like it a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBlack Paint\u201d &#8211; Ty Segall<br>\nSegall constantly puts out new music, and it never sounds like his previous release. This track takes a heavier route, and completely rocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFossils\u201d &#8211; THAO<br>\nThao Nguyen split her terrific Thao &amp; The Get Down Stay Down five years ago. This is her first proper release under her new, solo persona. It isn\u2019t too far removed from what she did with her old band, a funky mashup of various influences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSummer Girl\u201d &#8211; HAIM<br>\nA perfect song for the back half of summer, when the heat and humidity begin to wear you down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"English Beat - Save It For Later (Official Video) [HD]\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_0PUXt4-q80?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSave It For Later\u201d &#8211; The English Beat<br>\nMultiple times in recent weeks I\u2019ve had live versions of this pop up in my Instagram feed, with those weird, AI descriptions that don\u2019t really apply to the video.
