And Josh Homme sounding more like Chris Cornell than he ever has. I definitely dig!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSweet Devotion\u201d &#8211; Queen of Jeans<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This song isn\u2019t nearly as good, but I almost felt obligated to slot it in as track #2 this week. I\u2019m tempted to play a Queen song next\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA Different Kind\u201d &#8211; Rakim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The God MC is back!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cturning down flowers\u201d &#8211; Slow Fiction<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love the push-and-pull in this track. The music feels like it wants to gallop ahead, while Julia Vassallo\u2019s vocals hold everything in place. At least for the first two-thirds. Once she drops her restraint the song elevates to another, lovely level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTick Tick Bang\u201d &#8211; Prince<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Timeless<\/em>, the latest package to be released from Prince\u2019s vault came out two weeks ago. It is rather uneven, as you would imagine, since it covers almost his entire career. Two songs are from right around 1980 while a live track was recorded just a few days before his death. There\u2019s nothing too special on it, but I do enjoy this track. It was originally recorded in 1981 but not released. A completely re-recorded version appeared on the <em>Graffiti Bridge<\/em> album in 1990. This is the original from \u201981. A perfect example of the Funky Filthy New Wave sound he probably invented.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCocoon\u201d &#8211; Sweeping Promises<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last time I played a song by this Lawrence, KS based band, it was immediately after a song from Prince\u2019s vault. Makes sense to do it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOfficially\u201d &#8211; Way Dynamic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A nice, end-of-summer song, especially with the lyric about the season changing. This weekend is not the official end of summer, but we all know once Labor Day is behind us it is fall time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEnd Of Summer\u201d Tame Impala&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sadly,&nbsp; it has arrived. Time is undefeated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"U2 - Red Hill Mining Town\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yLvpZwN9Oko?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRed Hill Mining Town\u201d &#8211; U2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not a lot of songs about Labor Day for some reason. This one, from the amazing side two of <em>The Joshua Tree<\/em>, is about a 1984 mining strike in the UK. And, of course, the UK\u2019s Labo(u)r Day is different than ours. But the line is in there and I was scrambling for a video, which made it good enough for me. A strange video.
