Over the weekend, there was another effort at laying down \u201984\u2019s case. I\u2019m sure this crossed your Twitter\/Facebook\/Blogosphere streams, but I couldn\u2019t let it go without sharing again.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty years ago last weekend, here\u2019s what you could see at a movie theater:<br \/>\n* Ghostbusters<br \/>\n* Gremlins<br \/>\n* Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom<br \/>\n* The Karate Kid<br \/>\n* Star Trek III: The Search For Spock<br \/>\n* Top Secret!<br \/>\n* The Natural<br \/>\n* Police Academy<\/p>\n<p>Holy shit!<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/kottke.org\/14\/06\/on-this-weekend-in-1984\">Jason Kottke pointed out<\/a>, Sixteen Candles and Footloose closed the weekend before.<\/p>\n<p>As for music, here\u2019s the Top 10 from that week:<br \/>\n* \u201cThe Reflex\u201d &#8211; Duran Duran<br \/>\n* \u201cTime After Time\u201d &#8211; Cyndi Lauper<br \/>\n* \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It For The Boy\u201d &#8211; Deniece Williams<br \/>\n* \u201cDancing In The Dark\u201d &#8211; Bruce Springsteen<br \/>\n* \u201cSelf Control\u201d &#8211; Laura Branigan<br \/>\n* \u201cThe Heart Of Rock &amp; Roll\u201d &#8211; Huey Lewis and The News<br \/>\n* \u201cJump\u201d &#8211; The Pointer Sisters<br \/>\n* \u201cWhen Doves Cry\u201d &#8211; Prince and The Revolution<br \/>\n* \u201cEyes Without A Face\u201d &#8211; Billy Idol<br \/>\n* \u201cBorderline\u201d &#8211; Madonna<\/p>\n<p>Pop, rock, dance, and some soul.
