Over at The Ringer, Rob Harvilla gives the album its proper due.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theringer.com\/def-leppard-hysteria-30th-anniversary-504d6518cfca\">Def Leppard\u2019s \u2018Hysteria\u2019 Is Still the Greatest Hair-Metal Album Ever\u00a0Made<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Man, was that album unescapable. And seemingly forever, as it really wasn\u2019t until nearly a year later, in the summer of \u201988, when the album really took off and \u201cPour Some Sugar On Me\u201d was played approximately every 15 seconds. As much as I was listening to hip hop and New Jack Swing-era R&amp;B my senior year of high school, <em>Hysteria<\/em> was just about always in my personal rotation, too.<\/p>\n<p>Harvilla\u2019s article is great: it\u2019s equally tongue-in-cheek and serious. But I must lodge one objection: <em>Pyromania<\/em> was a better album. As shiny as <em>Pyromania<\/em> was, it still had an edge and roughness to it. On <em>Hysteria<\/em> every single rough edge has been polished away. If that album was represented visually, it would be an immaculate sheet of glass. I will still listen to <em>Pyromania<\/em> a few times a year. I never listen to <em>Hysteria<\/em>, other than its title track or \u201cAnimal\u201d if I come across them. \u201cSugar\u201d is an instant skip if I come across it on the radio.<\/p>\n<p>One of my prouder blog posts ever was this breakdown of <em>Pyromania<\/em> from almost seven years ago. Really not sure how I didn\u2019t win all the blog awards for this one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dsnotebook.me\/pyromania-27-years-later\/\">Pyromania 27 Years Later<\/a><\/p>\n<p>By the way, worth noting that shortly after I bought the <em>Pyromania<\/em> CD back in 2010, I found a copy I had purchased like two years before. I sent about 95% of my old CD collection to a yard sale a couple years ago.
