Independence Day Playlist
This post hits harder this year, the 250th anniversary of the British Colonies in North America declaring independence from the Kingdom and establishing the United States of America as a free country. As always with these moments, between the cookouts and fireworks and cheesy commemorative t-shirts, it is important to reconcile where we are as a nation with where we should be. This year, in particular, we fall far short of the mythical and unrealistic expectations we Americans have for our country. It’s not worth getting into; we all know the singular cause that has made the era we live in so fraught, contentious, and, frankly, un-American.
So I offer my annual Independence Day playlist with a little more angst than normal. Although, to be fair, that angst and disappointment with our country’s path is one of the reasons this playlist came to be.
It looks like this year the Jason Anderson track is only available on Apple Music. Another reason for folks to ditch Spotify. Also one new song this year. Can you find it?!?!
Happy Fourth!
